Jammu: Prominent leader of PoK Displaced Persons and contesting Independent candidate from, Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat, Rajiv Chuni today exhorted the displaced community to reject party system and support his candidature.

While addressing a press conference at Jammu on Thursday, Rajiv Chuni alleged that all political parties, particularly BJP and Congress have ditched the PoK Displaced community, which had been supported either of the two in all previous elections. “This is for the first time that the community has a choice to vote for its own candidate, who has been struggling for the cause of PoK DPs for the last three decades and hence I request everyone to vote and support my candidature by pressing the button on serial number 18, displaying our election symbol `Desktop Computer’ in the EVM on April 11,” he said.

Rajiv Chuni stressed that each and every vote in his favour would give strength to the voice of PoK Displaced community, which has been so far marginalized by all the mainstream political parties. “These parties treated the Displaced community as mere vote bank and never took any serious initiative to address our grievances and demands,” he added. Encouraged over tremendous response of the community wherever he went in the three districts, Jammu, Samba and Rajouri, so far visited by him in the election campaign, Rajiv Chuni said that people extended their all possible support as well as vote to him.  “It was because of my frequent visits to our community members in these districts, particularly Rajouri & Poonch, that massive supported to my candidature was extended by the PoK DPs, who also said that candidates from political parties, including BJP and Congress were visiting them for the first time,” he added.

Rajiv Chuni also accused both Congress and BJP of triggering polarization and said that for vote politics, these parties were resorting to vicious campaign leading to communal division, which suits them. “The elections will be over in next few days but the venom spread by these mainstream parties will keep people divided on communal lines, which is dangerous for the society,” he said and once again appealed people to reject the party system. Others, who were present in the press conference, included Prof. N. N. Sharma, Vinod Kumar Datta, Pramod Ghai, Ved Raj Bali, K. D. Raina, Satinder Gupta & Pt. Amar Nath.
